The Power of Narrative in Healing the Impacts of Addiction and Betrayal

This presentation will explore how the stories we tell about our selves and our relationships hold incredible power to both harm and heal. Often these stories are born out of our pain and rarely capture the true complexity of our experiences. During this session we will demonstrate how to identify the narrative you (or your client) adopt(s) and what contributed to the particular way in which this story is shaped. We will also discuss how to create a new more holistic narrative that represents the truth of God while also reflecting the complexity of our experiences. And finally we will explore how this narrative process opens up avenues of healing for both individuals and couples.

Learning objectives:

1. Participants will be able to identify and describe the active narrative or support a client in identifying their own narrative.
2. Participants will be able to facilitate an exploration on where this particular narrative comes from and why it is shaped this way.
3. Participants will be able to facilitate the creation, adoption, and use of transforming narratives both personally and relationally to foster holistic well-being.
