Safe and Sound:
Navigating Sexual Brokenness with Compassion
In this course, we will address what it means to create a ‘safe church’—a space where individuals feel comfortable discussing unwanted sexual behaviors openly and without fear of judgment. Through practical tools and language, we’ll equip pastors and church staff with the skills and compassionate mindset needed to foster an environment of safety and vulnerability, allowing for genuine healing within their congregations. Together, we’ll identify and confront common barriers that often prevent churches from becoming spaces where individuals feel safe to share. Additionally, attendees will gain insights into how they can engage local churches, collaborating to build networks of support that extend beyond the church walls. By the end of this training, participants will leave with actionable strategies to make churches places where individuals feel welcomed, heard, and supported in their journeys toward wholeness.
Learning objectives:
1. Participants will understand what it means to create a ‘safe church’ environment that encourages open discussions around unwanted sexual behaviors, fostering a culture of vulnerability and support.
2. Participants will recognize and address common barriers that hinder churches from being safe spaces for healing, and learn strategies to overcome these challenges effectively.
3. Participants will learn ways to collaborate with churches to promote safe practices and integrate church support into broader recovery journeys, creating a supportive network for those seeking help.
